February 20, 1882: Neenah Library Association founded a small subscription library organized in the upstairs of the First National Bank building (pictured to the left)
September 1, 1883: City of Neenah takes ownership, care, and leadership of library services over from the Library Association
April 1, 1884: Neenah Common Council decides to establish a public library, to be located in the upstairs level of the first City Hall building. The library was twice remodeled and enlarged when it was located in the City Hall.
1904: Mr. Robert Shiells obtained $12,500 from Andrew Carnegie to help fund the Neenah Public Library. The rest of the required money, $15,500, was raised by the community.
January 1904: Carnegie Library is built and opened at site along the Fox River that Mrs. Theda Clark Peters donated. (Pictured Above)

- Architect: VanRyn and DeGelleke Architects, Milwaukee WI
- Contractor: "Built under the direction of the Neenah Public Building Association"
- The library cost $28,000 and was made of Bedford stone and gray brick. It consisted of a center area and two wings. The center was 71 feet tall and the wings were each 48 feet tall.
